I have been asked if I would provide a bit of a write up on my adventures in the north every month.  So, we will call this my first little write up.  Since coming to Yellowknife I have been gearing up to participate in the Rock and Ice Ultra.  A 135km snowshoe race over 3 days.  This is one thing for people that like to do marathons.  An entirely different thing for those with no experience.  My goal is to finish and in the process take this opportunity to raise some funds and awareness for Big Brothers and Big Sisters.  I was a Big Brother for 5 years out of York Region.  In Yellowknife, there is no Big Brothers organization, however it is the organization’s plan to eventually have a chapter located here.

So, the time has come… I am officially hunting for sponsorship for the Rock and Ice Ultra Marathon as I raise funds for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Please check out my website. Just click on the big dollar sign to give to this great cause.

You have the option to donate directly to the York organisation or to the National program. I have set a goal to raise $5,000.  This is proving to be a bit of a challenge here in Yellowknife.  This town is one that seems to always be giving.  There is quit the competition for donations.  For a town of only 20,000 I have never seen such on-going commitment to those in need in and outside of a community.

I am still setting things up on my web site so check back in every now and then and I will provide updates as to how much money has been raised and how I am gearing up for this great event. When the race is on, you will be able to follow the race from the Rock and Ice Ultra web site.

Now here is the bonus!  I have convinced Maxim Bloudov and Troy Marsh to do the race with me to raise funds for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Max is a colleague of mine at INAC and is also a volunteer firefighter here in the city of Yellowknife.  Troy works with a consulting firm here in Yellowknife.
